October 17-19, 2019
University of North Texas
Welcome!
Collaborative pianists and vocal coaches partner with all types of musicians and artists. Because of the vast artistic reach of our discipline, we collaborative pianists have an opportunity to change the world, one phrase at a time, by fostering connection and belonging through self-awareness, preparation and generosity in our partnerships. Through providing an opportunity for collaborative pianists to gather together for an enriching and stimulating symposium, CollabFest, now in its fourth year, is committed to nurturing a collaborative culture in our world by fostering the collaborative ideals of partnership, participation and presence.
CollabWeek 2019 begins with a residency given by the phenomenal Alan Smith, who will be both master clinician and composer-in-residence for CollabFest at the end of the week. We honor Alan in a very special way as he celebrates his 30 years this year at the University of Southern California and at the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Guest faculty from around the country will join Alan and UNT faculty members in offering sessions and masterclasses on performance practice, technique, repertoire, entrepreneurship, and more.
CollabFest is for students of piano and collaborative piano, for professional pianists, and for musicians interested in the collaborative arts. Student pianists may register for one day or the whole conference: Thursday and Friday will feature sessions geared towards advanced collegiate and professional pianists, and Saturday’s sessions will be useful for pianists from pre-collegiate through professional levels. Pre-collegiate, collegiate and professional pianists may apply to perform for masterclasses and the showcase recital here. To submit a proposal for a presentation or panel discussion, please apply here.
At the heart of the matter, the collaborative arts are about teamwork, community building, generous sharing of self, and the sheer joy of making music intimately with another human being. CollabFest celebrates this. Come join us for this exciting 4th annual event this October!
Collaboratively yours,
Elvia Puccinelli,
Artistic Director
